BGB seizes huge illegal timber in Rangamati

RANGAMATI, April 27, 2025 (BSS) – Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in a drive seized huge amount of illegal timber from Longadu upazila of Rangamati district today. 

On a tip-off, a BGB team from Rajnagar Battalion (BGB-37) conducted a drive in Jarulchhara area of the upazila and seized the illegal timber, said Lt. Col. Nahid Hasan, commander of the Battalion at noon. 

During the drive, the BGB seized 277 CFT gamari timbers in an abandoned condition.

Rajnagar Battalion commander Lt. Col. Nahid Hasan said that due to illegal logging and smuggling of timber from the forest, the forest area is being destroyed and the environment is being damaged. 

He also said that some unscrupulous timber traders smuggled timber from different areas of the hilly region.

BGB's operational activities and intelligence activities for border security and prevention of smuggling are continuing in full swing, he said.

The ongoing operation against smuggling will continue and will be further strengthened in future. 

Rajnagar Battalion in 31 drives seized a total of 2,277.73 CFT of illegal timber from different area this year. The value of the seized timber is about Taka 39,69,465.
