JASHORE, April 27, 2025 (BSS) – The Food Ministry is set to cancel the licences of a number of rice mills in the district, as those mills failed to supply rice to the government’s food storehouse.

In this regard, the Food Ministry issued a letter on March 20, asking 62 rice mills to show cause for failing to supply the food grain.

Jashore District Food Controller Sefaur Rahman told BSS that the letter was issued, directing action against the 62 rice mills in line with provisions 7 and 8 of the 'Essential Food Grains Collection, Management and Control Order, 2022'.

According to the Food Office, the mills that have been issued show-cause notices include 15 in Sadar Upazila, 13 in Monirampur, 8 in Keshabpur, 4 in Abhaynagar, 2 in Jhikargacha, 5 in Sharsha, 2 in Bagherpara, and 13 in Chaugachha Upazila.

Sefaur Rahman said, “Show-cause notices have been issued to the owners of the concerned rice mills as per the aforementioned provisions. Responses have been received for most of the notices, while some are pending at the upazila level.”

As the responses of most mills were not satisfactory, it is almost certain that the licences of most of the 62 rice mills will be cancelled, he added.

The food controller informed that a final decision will be taken within this week after reviewing all the responses.
