Lightning kills 4, including 2 students in Cumilla

CUMILLA, April 28, 2025 (BSS) - Four people, including two school students, were killed in two separate incidents of lightning strikes in Barura and Muradnagar upazilas of the district today.

The incident took place on Monday afternoon. The officer-in-charge of the concerned police station (OC) confirmed the matter.

Two school students were killed and another was injured in a lightning strike at Payalgachha village of Khoshbas union in Barura upazila of the district this afternoon.

The deceased are Fahad Hossain, 13, son of late Khokon Mia of Payalgachha village and Saymon Hossain, 13, grandson of Abdul Barek Mia. They were students of class six of Baraharipur High School, said Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Barura Police Station Nazmul Hasan.

The lightning struck the children when they were flying kites in the field this afternoon, leaving three boys fatally injured.

The injured were taken to a local hospital, where the doctors declared two students dead.

Besides, two farmers died in a lightning strike while harvesting paddy in a field at Korbanpur Purbapara under Bangra Bazar Police Station of Muradnagar upazila of the district this morning, said Mahfuzur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bangra Bazar Police Station.

The deceased are Nikhil Debnath, 64, son of late Bircharan Debnath of Korbanpur village of Purbadhair Purba union and Jewel Bhuiyan, 30, son of Jasim Uddin Bhuiyan of Deora village under Andikut union of the upazila.
