One killed, two injured in Habiganj lightning strike

HABIGANJ, April 28, 2025 (BSS) - A 35-year-old man was killed and his two brothers were injured in a lightning strike while harvesting paddy here in the district today.

The deceased was identified as Durbasha Das, son of Kalabashir Das of Ariyamughur village in Baniachong upazila of the district.

The incident took place in the Purbir Haor of Daulatpur Union in the upazila around 1:00 pm, said Baniachang Police Station officer-in-charge Kabir Hossain, Officer-in-Charge.

Locals said Durbasha Das and his two brothers, Bhushan Das (38) and Sudhanya Das (25), were harvesting paddy in the haor when the lightning struck them. 

The two surviving brothers were severely injured and have been transferred to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital for treatment, they said.
