PIROJPUR, April 28, 2025 (BSS) - Naval police in a drive seized one lakh illegal shrimp fry and arrested a man from the Kachan River in Kaukhali upazila of the district.
The arrested man was Aynal Haque of Taltoli upazila in Barguna district.
The fry were seized while being smuggled by a trawler in the river. Later, a mobile court led by executive magistrate Swajal Molla fined Aynal Haque Taka 5,000.
The seized fry were released into various water bodies of the upazila at 10 am on Monday, said Kaukhali Upazila Fisheries Officer Hafizur Rahman.
On a tip-off, a team of Kaukhali Naval Police conducted a drive in Kachan river and seized an engine-run boat from the river, he said.
Later, the team recovered the shrimp fry after searching the boat.
"It is illegal to catch shrimp fry at any time. Our campaign to protect native fish species will continue," the officer said.
