CHANDPUR, April 29, 2025 (BSS) - The Coast Guard seized around 1.2 million Bagda shrimp fry while they were being transported from the Meghna River in Haimchar upazila of the district to other parts of the country.

The estimated value of the seized shrimp fry is Tk 45 lakh. Later, the fry were released into the Dakatia River.

"Acting on a tip-off, the Coast Guard and the Department of Fisheries conducted a joint operation and seized the shrimp fry," said Assistant Fisheries Officer of Sadar upazila Md. Mizanur Rahman. 

He added that a section of dishonest fishermen are catching fry from the Meghna River using illegal fine-mesh nets.
