Six jailed for illegal soil extraction in Feni

FENI, April 29, 2025 (BSS)- A mobile court, in a drive, sentenced six 
individuals to imprisonment in different terms for illegally extracting soil 
from government land along a riverbank in the Dakshin Chandpur area of Lemua 
union under Sadar upazila of the district.
 
Assistant Commissioner (Land) of Sadar upazila Sajib Talukdar led the drive 
on Monday night and seized an excavator and two trucks.
 
The arrested were identified as Md Joynal Abedin, 52, Md Ismail, 35, Md 
Saddam, 33, Md Arif, 35, Md Israfil, 23, and Md Jahangir, 35.

Sajib Talukdar said, "After receiving information about the illegal soil 
extraction, which posed a threat to the environment, ecology, and 
biodiversity of the riverbank, we conducted a drive and arrested six men for 
cutting soil near the river, under section 13 of the Land Crime Prevention 
and Redress Act, 2023." 

Of the accused, Joynal Abedin was sentenced to four months of imprisonment 
and fined Taka 25,000 while Ismail sentenced three-month jail and fined Taka 
25,000 and Saddam sentenced to three months jail.

Besides, Arif, Israfil and Jahangir received one-month imprisonment each 
along with Taka 100 as fine.
