Students can play a vital role in building drug-, child-marriage-free society - KCC Administrator

KHULNA, April 29, 2025 (BSS) - Administrator of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) and Khulna Divisional Commissioner Md Firoz Sarkar said students must stay away from drugs and play a significant role in building a better society. 

Referring to students as the future leaders of the nation, he emphasized the importance of raising awareness among them about the harmful effects of drug addiction and child marriage.

The KCC Administrator made the remarks on Tuesday afternoon while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion titled "Role of Students and Civil Society in Building a Drug and Child-Marriage-Free Society," held at the auditorium of Khulna Collegiate Girls' School and KCC Women's College. 

Department of Narcotics Control in Khulna, in collaboration with Khulna Collegiate Girls' School and KCC Women's College organized the event.

Highlighting the adverse effects of child marriage, Md Firoz Sarkar said early marriage is a major obstacle to girls' education. Some imprudent guardians push their daughters into uncertainty through early marriage, which is unacceptable. He urged parents to be more responsible and aware of this issue. 

Rozina Akter, Acting Principal of the school, presided over the discussion, while Md. Ahsanur Rahman, Additional Director of the Department of Narcotics Control in Khulna Division, UNICEF Khulna's Child Protection Officer, Muminunnesa Shikha, also spoke as guests of honor. 

Among others, Secretary of KCC Sharif Asif Rahman, Deputy Director, Department of Narcotics Control, Khulna Md. Mizanur Rahman addressed the event as special guests. 

Advocate Sheikh Oliul Islam, Convener of the organizing committee, delivered the welcome speech.
