KHULNA, Aug 25, 2025 (BSS) - Three people were killed while five others sustained injuries in a head-on collision between a pickup van and an easy bike in Dumuria upazila of Khulna.

The accident took place around 9:30am this morning at the Jilerdanga area, confirmed Dumuria Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Masud Rana.

He said that upon receiving the report about the incident, police and fire service personnel rushed to the scene and promptly launched rescue operations.

Identities of the deceased were not known immediately, he added.

Eyewitnesses said that the easy bike was heading to Gallamari in Khulna city transporting seven passengers from Dumuria Bazar. As it reached Jilerdanga on the Khulna-Satkhira highway, it collided head-on with a speeding pickup van coming from the opposite direction, leaving easy bike driver Mujahidul Moral and passenger Rina Khatun dead on the spot. 

The critically injured were rushed to Dumuria Upazila Health Complex and Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMC Hospital), where another victim later succumbed to injuries.

Deputy Director of Khulna Division Fire Service and Civil Defence Motiar Rahman said that two individuals died on the spot, while a third passed away after being taken to the hospital. Five injured persons were rescued and sent for treatment.

Following the accident, traffic on the Khulna-Satkhira highway was temporarily disrupted. Police later restored normal vehicular movement. 

The pickup van driver and his assistant reportedly fled the scene after the accident.
