Boro paddy procurement drive begins in Gobindaganj upazila

GAIBANDHA, May 1, 2025 (BSS) - The government's Boro paddy procurement drive began in Gobindaganj upazila here in the district on Wednesday.

According to the Food Department, the target is to purchase 9,300 tonnes of paddy during the current Boro season from farmers across the district through 12 designated purchasing centers.

The drive was inaugurated at the Local Supply Depot (LSD) in Mohimaganj on Tuesday afternoon.

A ceremony was held on the premises, with Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Masudur Rahman attending as chief guest on behalf of UNO Syeda Yasmin Sultana.

Upazila Food Controller Rawshanul Kawsar presided over the event.

In his address, the chief guest urged officials to ensure transparent procurement in line with government guidelines. He then formally launched the drive by purchasing paddy from local farmers.

District Food Controller Mijanur Rahman said 2,203 tonnes of paddy will be procured from Sadar upazila alone. The government has set the purchase price at Tk 36 per kilogram. Procurement in six other upazilas will begin shortly.
