CUMILLA, May 20, 2025 (BSS) - Two children tragically drowned in a pond near their house at Ramchandrapur village under Chandla union in Brahmanpara upazila of the district this afternoon.
The deceased were Jihad, 5, son of Jalil Mia of the same area and Raihan, 3, son of Rubel Mia, a resident of Chauwara area in Cumilla Sadar Dakshin upazila.
Raihan was visiting his maternal grandfather's house at the time of the incident.
According to family members, the two children were playing in the yard near the pond when they accidentally fell into the water and drowned.
Later, they were rescued and taken to Brahmanpara Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctor declared them dead.
The two children were brought dead to the hospital. Their bodies have been handed over to their relatives, said Dr. Fahmida Islam, a doctor of the hospital.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Brahmanpara Police Station M Delowar Hossain confirmed the matter.
