AL leader sued for misappropriation of rice in Cox’s Bazar

COX’S BAZAR, May 20, 2025(BSS) - The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has lodged a case against a union council chairman and local Awami League (AL) leader and the secretary of the union council for misappropriation of 10,110 kg (kilograms) of government rice yesterday.

Deputy Assistant Director (DAD) of Cox’s Bazar Integrated District Office of the ACC Muhammad Humayun Bin Ahmed lodged a case against Syed Alam, Chairman of Jaliapalong union under Ukhia upazila and president of the union AL and Nur Md Tariqul Islam, Secretary of the union council.

The ACC alleged that the chairman and his secretary in connivance with each other sold 310 bags of rice containing 10,110 KGs of rice submitting a false list of beneficiaries and baseless documents during 2023-24 financial year. They also misappropriated the money depriving the poor people of the union.

DAD Muhammad Humayun Bin Ahmed also the Investigation Officer of the case told BSS that more people may be included in the case if the ACC found involvement of others in the case during the investigation.
