Consecutive rains benefit Rajshahi's agriculture

RAJSHAHI, May 24, 2025 (BSS) - Two consecutive rains during the last couple of days benefited the standing crops and vegetables in the region, including its vast Barind tract.
According to the local meteorological office, the rains began at 12 noon on Friday and continued until almost 5 p.m.

Earlier on Wednesday, the city dwellers and the adjacent people experienced rainfall.

Umme Salma, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture Extension, said Boro rice, jute, mango, litchi and other fruits and vegetables benefited from the rainfall.

She said the consecutive rains were blessings for the crops, fruits and vegetables.
Talking to BSS here Saturday, Tareque Aziz, an observer at the meteorological office, said they recorded 31.8 millimeters of rainfall on Friday. Earlier on Wednesday, they recorded 84 millimeters of rainfall, the highest of the season, and the rain began at 8.40 pm and continued to 11.30 pm.
Abdul Jalil, a farmer at Tanore upazila in the district, said they benefited from the rainfall enormously.

He said the farmers, who are preparing their lands for the aush paddy cultivation they benefited to a greater extent from the rainfall.
