DHAKA, June 25, 2025 (BSS) - With the theme "No more plastic pollution, now, it's time to end it," the World Environment Day-2025 was observed in the districts with various programmes on Wednesday.
In Dinajpur, The District Administration and the Department of Environment jointly organised a rally, discussion and award distribution ceremony in the district on the occasion of World Environment Day.
With the slogan of "No more plastic pollution - it's time to stop it", a colorful rally brought out from the Deputy Commissioner's office this afternoon and after parading the main roads of the town it ended at the same venue.
After the rally, a discussion and award distribution ceremony were held in the Deputy Commissioner's conference room at 4 pm today.
Deputy Secretary Local Government and Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Md. Riaz Uddin spoke as the chief guest at function.
He said "Now we all have to take responsibility for protecting the environment. Only then it will be possible to properly protect and implement the balance in the country's environment."
Trees should be planted on one-fourth of the land of the country. But compared to that, we have trees on 7 to 8 percent of the land. Even then, it is not possible to prevent the tree cutting activities in any way. The environment is being destroyed due to various reasons. As a result, it is affecting our individual lives and overall issues, he said.
Therefore, he called on everyone to come forward to protect the environment.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT) S. M. Habibul Hasan, Additional District Magistrate Md. Noor Alam Siddiqui, Additional Police Superintendent (Traffic) Md. Mosfequr Rahman and Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr. Shah Muha Sharif were present, among others.
Assistant Director of the Department of Environment Dinajpur Md. Molin Mia delivered the welcome speech.
At the end of the discussion meeting, crests and certificates were distributed to the contestants who participated in various competitions on the occasion of World Environment Day.
In Gaibandha, World Environment Day-2025 was observed in the district with much enthusiasm as elsewhere in the country and the globe today with a call to protect the environment from all sorts of degradation including plastic pollution.
Marking the day, SKS Foundation, a Gaibandha base non-government development organization working across the country chalked out the programmes under School led Community Resilience to Disaster and Climate Risk project funded by Muslim Aid UK Bangladesh Country Office.
In the morning a rally was brought out from the premises of Belka MC High School under Belka Union of Sundarganj upazila in the district and ended at the same venue after parading Belka Bazaar of the union. Then, a discussion meeting was also held at the hallroom of the school with its head teacher Ahsan Habib Khokon in the chair.
Local union parishad chairman Ibrahim Khalilullah, volunteers spoke at the function.
Project manager Afroja Bulbul made welcome speech in the beginning of the function and highlighted the overall activities of the project being implemented in 3 disaster prone unions- Belka, Kapasia and Horipur ones of the upazila.
A total of 10 high schools of the unions have been brought under the project she said adding that a number of rooms of the schools which were not fit for conducting academic activities have been made fit for conducting academic activities through need base repairing at the initiative of the project.
Besides, education materials like umbrella and school bags were also distributed to the students of the selected schools so that they could go to schools regularly during the disaster period.
The speakers underscored the need for protecting the environment from all sorts of degradation. They also emphasized for creating much awareness among the people about plastic pollution.
Later, a number of saplings of fruit bearing trees were planted on the school premises.
In Sherpur, The day was observed in the district with the slogan of ‘No more plastic pollution, it’s time to stop it’.
A colorful rally was brought out from the District Collectorate premises at 11 am. Later, a discussion meeting was held at the Deputy Commissioner’s conference room, Rajnigandha.
Deputy Commissioner Tarafdar Mahmudur Rahman spoke at the meeting as the chief guest while Additional Deputy Commissioner Mosa. Hafiza Jesmani was in the chair.
Civil Surgeon Dr. Md. Shaheen, Assistant Director of the Department of Environment District Office Md. Nur Qutub Alam Siddique, Press Club President Kakon Reza, BNP leader Awal Chowdhury, Jamaat leader Maulana Abdul Baten, freedom fighter Abdur Rahim Dulal, NCP leader Rashedul Islam, District Coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement Mamunur Rahman addressed the meeting, among others.
The speakers said public should be encouraged to use alternatives to plastic. At the end of the programme, crests, saplings and certificates were distributed among the winners of the essay and drawing competitions jointly organized by the district administration and the Department of Environment.
In Rangamati, a rally and discussion meeting were held in the district on the occasion of World Environment Day.
Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Habib Ullah presided over the meeting held at the District Administration Conference Room organized by the District Administration and Department of Environment at 10.30 am.
Rangamati Local Government Department Deputy Director and Municipality Administrator Md. Mobarak Hossain, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Md. Ruhul Amin, Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle) Md. Azharul Islam Mukul, District Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr. Rony Dey, District BNP General Secretary Ed. Md. Mamunur Rashid Mamun, District Jamaat General Secretary Mansurul Haque, BRAC District Coordinator Habibur Rahman, among others, were present at the meeting.
The speakers urged all to work sincerely from their respective positions to protect the environment and to raise public awareness.

In Sunamganj, discussion meeting and rally were held in the district on the occasion of World Environment Day.

The district administration and the Department of Environment organized the rally at 10 am with the participation of local environmental organizations, scout groups, and the district administration.
Later, a discussion meeting was held in the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner.
Deputy Commissioner (Routine Duty) Mohammad Rezaul Karim presided over the meeting. Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education) Tapash Ranjan Shil, Additional Superintendent of Police Tapash Ranjan Ghosh, Wildlife Officer Mahmudul Haque, Children's Affairs Officer Badal Chandra Barman, General Secretary of the Environment Movement Fazlul Karim Sayeed were present, among others.
Besides, World Environment Day was observed in Satkhira, Munshiganj, Netrakona, Khagrachhari, Rajbari, Cumilla, Joypurhat, nilphamari, Bhola, Jamalpur, Patuakhali, Jhenaidah, Shariatpur, Chandpur, and bagerhat districts in a befitting manner.
