PATUAKHALI, Aug 19, 2025 (BSS) - A Coral fish weighing 24 kg was caught in the fishing net in the Bay of Bengal in Patuakhali's Kuakata.

Gazi Fish market dealer Md. Bashir Gazi bought the fish through the auction for Taka 35,938. He brought the fish to Kuakata fish market around 11 am today.

Talking to this correspondent, Bashir Gazi said that the demand for big fish is high in Kuakata. Therefore, we collect the fish from fishermen in the coastal area and large fish landing centers.

KM Bachchu, convener of the Coastal Environment Protection Movement Kuakata said, "This is the season for catching big fish, as there is a huge supply of marine fishes including Hilsa and Coral. However, such large-sized fish are comparatively rare now. This fish was more available 5 to 7 years ago."

In this regard, Kalapara Upazila Senior Fisheries Officer Apu Saha said, "This is the result of the ban. After 58-day ban on fishing, fishermen have gone out to catch fish in the sea. It is very natural that big fish will be caught in the fishermen's nets."
