DHAKA, Aug 20, 2025 (BSS) - Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on Tuesday seized one lakh pieces of Yaba tablets during a raid on the Naf River in Teknaf upazila of Cox's Bazar district, according to a press release of the force.

Acting on a tip-off that a gang in collusion with Myanmar-based traffickers would attempt to smuggle drugs into Bangladesh disguised as fishermen, a team of Teknaf Battalion BGB launched a special drive on the river.

Around 1:30 pm, the BGB naval patrol team intercepted a fishing boat near the zero line, under the jurisdiction of Sabrang BOP, about 100 yards inside Bangladesh.

As the patrol approached, two drug dealers on board jumped into the river and fled back to Myanmar.

Later, the abandoned boat was searched and one lakh pieces of Yaba tablets were recovered from a plastic packet hidden in a fishing net.

BGB Teknaf Battalion Commander Lt. Col. Ashikur Rahman led the operation.

Following the seizure, BGB teams conducted further raids in different areas of the Naf River to trace the people involved.

Intelligence surveillance has also been intensified to identify and arrest members of the drug ring.

Lt. Col. Ashikur Rahman said BGB has always maintained a strict stance against drug trafficking, illegal activities and crimes in border areas.

He reaffirmed that BGB's zero tolerance policy to protect national and border security will remain firm.
