RANGPUR, June 25, 2025 (BSS) - In addition to leaving the use of plastic,it is essential to reduce environmental pollution and growing threats for life, livelihood and ecosystem by planting lots of trees to keep our planet habitable.
 
Officials and experts made the observation at a post-rally discussion held at the Deputy Commissioner's conference room here on Wednesday.
 
The district administration and Department of Environment jointly organised the discussion, colorful rally, drawing competition and prize distribution to mark the World Environment Day- 2025.
 
Rangpur Divisional Director (Local Government) Md Abu Zafar attended the 
function as the chief guest.
 
Additional Deputy Commissioner Pirmal Kumar Sarkar chaired the function.
 
Superintendent of Police (SP) of the Rangpur Range DIG Office M Ashraf Ullah Taher, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) of Rangpur Metropolitan Police Limon Roy and Additional SP Sharif Mohammad Farukuzzaman spoke as special guests. 
 
The chief guest said that the habitable earth of the people is gradually 
becoming inappropriate to live day by day due to indiscriminate cutting of trees and environmental pollution. 
 
One of the causes of environmental pollution is polythene. 
 
"This polythene does not rot in water and the ground and it emitts poisonous gases to the air while burned. Micro plastic amounts are increasing in the environment with the wide use of plastic," he said. 
 
As a result, people are infected with various diseases and the environment is deteriorating. For this, the use of environmentally friendly jute products should be increased instead of plastic to protect the environment. 
 
Regarding the brick kiln, he said that the brick kilns are destroying the 
environment which is a threat to the existence of humans and other organisms. 
 

To reduce this harmful effect, he suggested the use of modern technology and finding the source of alternative fuel and adopting an environmentally friendly brick production method. 
 
"Environmental pollution cannot be controlled only by law enforcement. This requires increasing public awareness," he said, and urged all concerned to work from their respective positions to keep the environment pollution free. 
 
Later, the chief guest distributed prizes to the winners of different 
competitions arranged for children and students in observance of the day.
