Ex-OC among 10 cops sued in extortion case by Jubo Dal leader

KHULNA, June 26, 2025 (BSS) - Ten police officials including a former officer-in-charge (OC) of Terokhada Police Station of Khulna Sarder Mosharraf Hossain were accused in an extortion case. 
 
Terokhada Jubo Dal Joint Convenour Md Golam Mostofa Bhutto filed the case as complainant at Judicial Magistrate, Khulna on June 25. 
 
Judge Md Nazmul Kabir of the court took the case into cognizance and asked the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to probe it. 
 
Lawyer of the complainant Advocate Shahidul Islam confirmed BSS of the matter. 
 
The remaining accused in the case are: then inspector (investigation) Md Alamgir Kabir, second officer Abdul Kaiyum, sub-inspector (SI) Chanchal Jumar Halder, SI Rubel, SI Enamul, SI Protap, SI Alif Ghosh, SI Mohammad Shahin Kadir and SI Bishwajit Mitra. 
 
Of the accused, a former OC of Terokhada Police Station is now working at the crime branch of police in Khulna.
 
In a brief description of the case, it was alleged that the accused in connivance with each other realized extortion from the leaders and activists of the BNP and Jamaat by threatening them to arrest them by filing cases and kill them in 'crossfire' during the tenure of the previous Awami League government. 
 
The accused demanded Tk 5 lakh from the complainant and threatened him to kill in the crossfire in case of failure to give the money. On June 20 in 2023, the accused demanded Tk 10 lakh from the complainant and some others and then implicated them in false cases.
 
They even accused Terokhada Upazila BNP convener Chowdhury Fakhrul Islam Bulu's father in a case despite the fact that he died 11 years back. 
 
The complainant alleged that he was also accused in a case of sabotage after giving the accused Tk 1.50 lakh. They extorted money from the local BNP and Jamaat leaders following the same tricks. 
 
The complainant said he registered the case at the court as the condition has become normal now and expected justice from the court.
