Man gets 10 years jail for killing farmer in Mymensingh

MYMENSINGH, June 26, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced a man to 10 years in prison for killing a farmer in Gouripur upazila of the district back in 2010.

Judge Md. Shamsuddin of the Additional District and Sessions Judge Court-5 delivered the verdict.

The convict, Sohel Mia, 35, is the son of Abul Kashem of Charpara area under Gouripur upazila.

The court also fined him Taka 20,000, in default, to suffer six months more in jail.

According to prosecution, Sohel Mia struck farmer Kazimuddin on the head with a stick on December 29, 2010, during a dispute over land. Kazimuddin was rushed to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital in critical condition, where doctors declared him dead.

Following the incident, the victim's nephew, Nayan Mia, filed a murder case with Gouripur Police Station. 

After an investigation, police charged six individuals, including Sohel and submitted a charge sheet to the court.

Following a prolonged trial and testimony from 15 witnesses, the court found Sohel guilty and handed down the sentence. 

The remaining five accused were acquitted as the charges brought against them were not proven.
