Coast Guard seizes illegal goods worth Tk 7cr in Bhola

BHOLA, July 5, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Coast Guard has seized banned fishing nets and other illegal goods worth about Taka 7 crore in Bhola.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of the Coast Guard conducted a special operation in the Kalinath Roy Bazar area under Sadar upazila yesterday. During the drive, they recovered 20 lakh meters of banned fishing nets, 80 kg of polythene, 5,889 pieces of fireworks, and a large quantity of foreign cigarettes worth about Taka 7.8 crore from a covered van. 

The information was disclosed in a press release issued this morning by Coast Guard Headquarters Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Harun-or-Rashid.

Later, the seized nets were destroyed in the presence of the Bhola Sadar Upazila Fisheries Officer. The banned polythene was handed over to the Department of Environment in Bhola, the illegal foreign cigarettes to Barisal Customs, and the fireworks to Bhola Sadar Police Station.
