3 teenagers die after drowning in Rangpur

RANGPUR, July 7, 2025 (BSS) - Three teenagers, including two madrasa students, drowned while bathing in two separate rivers in different places in Badarganj and Taraganj upazilas of the district on Sunday afternoon. 

Police and local sources said that two madrasa students drowned while bathing in the river Jamuneswari near the Pakarmatha Railway Bridge in Badarganj upazila at around 2 pm. 

The deceased were identified as Mehedi Hasan Siam, 13, son of Shakhawat Hossain of Simulbari village in Nababganj upazila and Alif Hossain, 12, son of Aftab Hossain of Laxmanpur village in Parbatipur upazila of Dinajpur district. 

They were students of Jamiatus Sunnah Darul Uloom Madrasa in Badarganj upazila. 

Officer-in-charge (OC) of Badarganj police station AKM Atiqur Rahman said the bodies were handed over to their respective families. 

In another incident, a teenager died while bathing in the river Chikli in Dholaighat area of Soyar union in Taraganj upazila of Rangpur at around 3 pm. 

The deceased was identified as Tasin Ahmed, 12. 
 
He is the son of Ziarul Islam of Madarganj village in Badarganj upazila of Rangpur. 
 
Police said the body was handed over to his relatives.
