Two killed in Mymensingh road accident

MYMENSINGH, July 7, 2025 (BSS) - Two people were killed and two others injured in a head-on collision between a truck and an auto-rickshaw in Gafargaon upazila of the district today.

The deceased were identified as Md. Iqbal Hossain, 55, a businessman from Bamunkhali Bottola Bazar in Tangab Union, and Wasim, 28, an auto-rickshaw driver and son of Abu Bakar from Panchbagh Dighirpar village under the same upazila.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Pagla Police Station Md. Ferdous Alam said Iqbal Hossain was traveling in the auto-rickshaw from Tangab Bottola Bazar towards Panchbagh Chowka Bazar when a speeding truck coming from the opposite direction collided head-on with the vehicle in the Chowka Bazar area of Panchbagh Union under Pagla Police Station around 2pm, killing Iqbal on the spot.

Auto-rickshaw driver Wasim and two others sustained serious injuries in the accident. Locals rescued the injured and took them to Hossenpur Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared Wasim dead. 

The remaining two injured were later referred to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for better treatment.

Truck driver Sohan has been arrested, and both the truck and auto-rickshaw have been seized. Legal proceedings are underway, the OC added.
