National election at beginning of next year: Sohel

MYMENSINGH, July 13, 2025(BSS) - BNP Joint Secretary General Habib-Un-Nabi Khan Sohel has expressed the hope that the next general election will be held in the country at the beginning of next year as per assurance of the Chief Adviser.

“The Chief Adviser has assured the countrymen that the next general election will be held at the beginning of next year…We are hopeful with the assurance,” he said.

Habib-Un-Nabi Khan Sohel said this while addressing the installation ceremony of the newly formed full ad-hoc committee of Mymensigh South Zila BNP at an auditorium of a non-government organization (NGO) here last night.

Moderated by the Member Secretary of the newly formed committee Rokonuzzaman Sarkar Rokon, the function was addressed, among others, by Mymensigh Divisional Organizing Secretary of BNP Shariful Alam and its Assistant Organizing Secretaries Wares Ali Mamun and Abu Wahab Akond.

The BNP Joint Secretary General said that the people of the country are eagerly waiting for a free, fair and credible election, especially the young generation who have been deprived from voting rights during the last 16 years. Now, they want to exercise their voting rights.

The interim government should implement minimum reforms as soon as possible before the election and the elected government will do complete reforms, he said adding that without having an elected and democratic government ensuring rule of law, economic stability and environment of investment is not possible.

He said BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has been inquiring about all the units of the party.

On June 5, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi following an instruction from Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman approved the committee. 

Md Zakir Hossain Khan Babul has been made convener of the 43-member committee.
