KHULNA, July 13, 2025 (BSS) - Police have arrested a youth from the Daulatpur area in the city early today for his alleged involvement in the murder of expelled Jubo Dal leader Mahbubur Rahman Molla.

The arrestee was identified as Sajal, 27, son of Saheb Ali, a resident of the Moheshwarpasha area under Daulatpur thana.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Daulatpur Police Station Mir Atahar Ali said although Sajal did not directly take part in the killing, he provided the attackers with detailed information about Mahbub's whereabouts.

Based on that information, the assailants carried out the murder, the OC said, adding that Sajal has been placed on a two-day remand for proper investigation.

On Friday around 1:30 pm, Mahbubur Rahman Molla, former vice-president of the Daulatpur thana unit of Jubo Dal, was cleaning his private car in front of his house in West Moheshwarpasha when three assailants riding a motorcycle opened fire on him.
Mahbub was hit by nine bullets, and the attackers also severed the tendons in both legs to ensure his death.

A day after the incident, Mahbub's father filed a case with Daulatpur Police Station against unidentified persons.
