Abducted food inspector rescued, 2 held in Khulna

KHULNA, July 14, 2025 (BSS) – Police rescued a food inspector Sushanta Kumar Mazumder, five and a half hours after his abduction, from Terokhada upazila of the district in the wee hours today.

Police also arrested two criminals including a mobile banking agent in this connection from Rupsha upazila today. 

The arrested persons were identified as Alamgir Kabir, a mobile banking agent and Musa Khan, an alleged extortionist.

Following a video footage and a general diary GD), a police team went on an operation and rescued the food inspector 

OC of Khulna sadar police station Sanwar Howlader said they rescued Sushanta from Azogara BRB High School of Terokhada Upazila tied with hands, legs and eyes around 12.30am today.

Afyter giving some primary treatment, the inspector, was admitted to Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH), he said.

A video footage found that four to five criminals forcibly took him on a trawler around 7 pm and whisked away to the River Atharobeki.

Madhabi Rani Mazumder, wife of the victim, filed a GD with Khulna sadar police station after the abduction.

According to the GD, local extortionists Md. Reza and Babu Mondal threatened her husband a few days ago to pay Taka thre lac, otherwise to face trouble. 

Before the abduction, her husband informed her over phone that four to five extortionists including Razu and Babu Mondal came to his office to collect the extortion money. Since then, her husband’s mobile phone was switched off, she narrated.

Madhabi Rani said she, along with one friend Sushanta paid Taka 45,000 to the extortionists through a mobile banking agent.

The extortionists over phone call threatened Madhabi Rani of killing her husband if they fail to give Taka 3 lac as ransom over their financial transaction number.

OC said, KMP, in cooperation with Terokhada thana police, started operation and rescued the abducted food inspector.

Assistant Commissioner of KMP (Media) Khondokar Hossain Ahmad said police drive is continuing to arrest the other criminals.

The arrested persons will be produced before the court seeking a remand prayer, he said, adding that the GD has already turned into an extortion case.
