Two Jamaat men die in road crash on way to Dhaka rally

FARIDPUR, July 19, 2025 (BSS) - Two men including a local Jamaat-e-Islami leader died and 10 activists of the party were injured as a bus rammed into their convoy near Model Mosque in Bhanga bus stand area here early today while they were en route to a rally in the capital.

The deceased were identified as Maulana Abu Sayeed, 52, son of late Shahar Ali and also the ameer of Dacope upazila in Khulna and Mohammad Amanat Sheikh, 55, son of Md Ismail Sheikh, of Banishanta area under Dacope upazila.

The accident occurred around 3:00am on the Dhaka-Khulna highway when a group of Jamaat leaders and activists was travelling from Khulna to Dhaka to attend the party's national rally scheduled for this afternoon at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital, said Mohammad Ashfaq Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Bhanga Police Station.

He said a Dhaka-bound Royal Paribahan bus from Khulna rammed the bus of Jamaat leaders and activists from behind when it made a break on the highway at Bhanga roundabout, leaving Maulana Sayeed, who was standing beside his vehicle, dead on the spot and injuring 11 others.

The injured were taken to Faridpur Medical College and Hospital and Bhanga Health Complex where Amanat Sheikh succumbed to his injuries later, the OC added.
