DHAKA, Aug 17, 2025 (BSS) - Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan 
Police (DMP) has arrested two couples along with 60 kilograms (Kgs) of 
cannabis and two private cars used to transport the drugs from the capital's 
Lalbagh area. 

The arrested have been identified as Md. Shafique Chowdhury, 31, and his wife 
Zainab Akhter, 25, and Kabir Hossain, 30, and his wife Chandni Akhter, 30.

On a tip-off, the DB team conducted a raid in front of Gate No. 2 of the 
Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board under Lalbagh Police Station 
around 6.25 pm on Saturday and arrested the drug peddlers, said a press 
release. 

During the operation, two private cars used in the transportation of the 
drugs and 60-kg of cannabis and Taka two lakh in cash seized from their 
possession. 

During the preliminary interrogation, the arrested confessed that they have 
been bringing the contraband drugs from different parts of the country for a 
long time and selling those in the capital. 

The arrestees have been accused in multiple drug cases with different police 
stations in the DMP, the release added.
