GAZIPUR, July 29, 2025 (BSS) - The body of Tasnim Siddiqui Jyoti, who went missing after falling into an uncovered manhole in Tongi area of the city, was recovered this morning-36 hours after the incident.
Members of the Fire Service recovered the body around 9:00 am from Bamboo Patti Beel in Tongi, confirmed Md Shahin Alam, Senior Station Officer of Tongi Fire Service Unit.
The incident occurred around 8:00 pm on Sunday (July 27), when Jyoti accidentally fell into an open drain near Hossain Market along the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway, he added.
Jyoti, daughter of late Oliullah Ahmed Bablu of Ward No-4, Masjidpara in Chuadanga district, was a resident of Sector No-10 in the capital's Mirpur area. She worked as a salesperson at a pharmaceutical importing company.
Soon after she fell into the drain, local people tried to rescue her but failed. Later, a team from the Tongi Fire Service launched a rescue operation at night, but were unable to trace her despite extensive efforts.
Md Iskandar Habibur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge of Tongi West Police Station under Gazipur Metropolitan Police, said police were actively involved in the search and assisted the Fire Service throughout the operation.
Meanwhile, the Gazipur City Corporation has formed an investigation committee to probe the incident.
