Police arrest banned AL man in Khulna

KHULNA, July 30, 2025 (BSS) - Police arrested a local leader of the banned Awami League (AL) last night in the city for involvement in terrorism activities and attacks on the 'Anti Discrimination Students Movement' during the July Uprising.

The arrestee was identified as Asifur Rashid Asif, 55, president of Ward No. 3 of Khulna City Unit AL, son of the late Abul Hossain Mia and resident of Mohewsharpasha Religate area in the city.

A press release issued by Khondokar Hossain Ahmad, Assistant Commissioner (Media) of Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP), confirmed the arrest. 

According to the release, acting on a tip-off, KMP's detective branch conducted an operation last night and arrested Asif from Kedernath Road in the Daulatpur area. He had been absconding for a long time. 

Asif was sent to jail by court order, the release added.
