3 arrested for trying to smuggle raisins from port

CHATTOGRAM, July 30, 2025 (BSS) - The Port Security Department has arrested three people on charge of their involvement in smuggling imported raisins in the NCT of the port. 

The port secretary Md. Omar Faruk confirmed the matter to BSS. The port authority came to know that an unassigned (importer-unsought) container was lying unsealed at the NCT delivery point, he said, adding that members of the National Security Intelligence Service (NSI) and the security department of the Chattogram Port Authority searched the covered van next to the container and the surrounding area at the scene. 

At that time, 84 cartons of unassigned raisins weighing 10-kg were recovered from the covered van next to the container, he said.  

The port secretary said that in an immediate operation three people were arrested and taken into security custody. 

Currently, legal action is underway in this regard.
