KHULNA, Aug 5, 2025 (BSS) - July Mass Uprising Day was observed in Khulna today with due solemnity and respect by paying deep homage to the memory of the July martyrs.
To mark the day, floral wreaths were placed at the "July Martyrs Memorial" at Shibbari intersection in the city.
The family members of the July martyrs, injured fighters and representatives of the July fighters, along with Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad (Khulna District and Metropolitan Units), KCC Administrator and Divisional Commissioner Md. Firoz Sarkar, Range DIG of Police Md. Rezaul Haque, KMP Commissioner Md. Zulfikar Ali Haider, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Saiful Islam, Superintendent of Police, Khulna Zila Parishad, Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party, various government offices, educational institutions and leaders from professional, social, and cultural organizations paid tributes there.
Special prayers were offered for the July martyrs after Zuhr prayers in mosques, while temples, churches, pagodas and other places of worship held special event.
Documentaries on the July Uprising were screened at various key locations in the city, including Shibbari intersection, Shaheed Hadis Park, Moylapota, Joragate, Gallamari, Rupsha intersection, and Notun Rasta areas.
On the occasion, Khulna City Corporation (KCC) organized a day-long event at Nagar Bhaban, which included drawing, essay and quiz competitions among students, along with a discussion session, prayer gathering and prize distribution.
Divisional Commissioner and KCC Administrator Md. Firoz Sarkar attended the event as the chief guest.
Expressing deep respect for the July martyrs and gratitude to the injured, KCC Administrator said, "August 5 is a historic day for us. On this very day last year, the combined resistance of students and the public brought down the autocratic and fascist regime."
He further remarked, "The July Uprising not only marked a movement against discrimination and fascism but also signaled a national reawakening. We must remain united to preserve this achievement."
The events were part of a broader initiative by Khulna City Corporation to commemorate the July Uprising Day.
Speaking at the Nagar Bhaban programme, which included a discussion session and prize distribution for children, the KCC Administrator emphasized the importance of remembrance and unity.
The chief guest distributed prizes among the winners of the art, essay, and quiz contests, and prayers were offered for the departed souls of the July martyrs.
KCC Secretary Sharif Asif Rahman presided over the event while Chief Revenue Officer Rahima Sultana Bushra, Acting Chief Engineer Moshiuzzaman Khan and Revenue Officer S.K.M. Tasadduzaman, among others, were present.
Earlier, KCC Administrator Md. Firoz Sarkar paid floral tributes at the July Martyrs Memorial at Zia Hall premises and later in the day visited the grave of July martyr Sheikh Md. Sakib Raihan at Basupara graveyard.
Besides, Khulna University, Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET), Khulna Agriculture University, Khulna Medical University, different private Universities and educational institutions, civil organizations also observed the day with various programmes.
