DHAKA, Aug 04, 2025 (BSS)- BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman today said advancing the nation is the only way to honor those who sacrificed their lives over the past 15 years, including during the July uprising.
"The only way to pay tribute to all the martyrs of the last 15 years is to start working towards fulfilling the aspirations for which they took to the streets. I believe that fulfilling those aspirations is the only means of honoring them," he said.
Tarique Rahman was addressing as the chief guest a discussion and event for honoring the families of the martyrs titled “Anti-Fascist Movement and My Untold Stories."
Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Juba Dal arranged the event at the Institution of Engineers in the city marking the anniversary of the July uprising.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir addressed the discussion as the key speaker while a number of BNP central leaders also took part in the discussion.
Jubo Dal president Monayem Munna presided over the event while General Secretary Nurul Islam Nayan moderated it. Leaders and activists from across the country joined the event.
Tarique Rahman said, "If we truly want to honor the martyrs, then we must move forward with the aspirations of those who over the past 15 years, were subjected to the oppression and torture of the autocrat regime in various ways.
He emphasized that the people of Bangladesh no longer prefer politics based on rhetoric and statement.
"I believe the people of Bangladesh no longer want politics of mere words,” he said adding that “They seek change; they don't want promises but rather the implementation of those promises."
"The people now want politics of sound planning and execution of promises. BNP is systematically working to meet the public expectations and improve the quality of life of the people," he said.
Tarique Rahman highlighted the plans of his party to provide primary healthcare to citizens, environment and climate, education, employment, small and medium entrepreneurs.
He said more than one-third of the country's total population comprises young people. Not all young people are unemployed, but surprisingly, most of the unemployed youth are educated. BNP is working to resolve this crisis and is developing a realistic education curriculum.
Referring to his party’s reform plans in the online business, the acting chairman said, "We have initiated efforts to supply small and cottage industry products manufactured in Bangladesh through online business platforms.
“We have also formulated our plans on how to promote the production and marketing of small and cottage industries in the country by utilizing this opportunity and potential."
A total of 78 families of Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal martyrs during July uprising were honored and six martyred Jubo dal activists were honored posthumously in the event.
Additionally, top 50 participants in a children drawing competition were awarded prizes.
