CHATTOGRAM, Aug 7, 2025 (BSS) - The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) today arrested Md. Russell, 36, main accused of Manik murder case in Anwara upazila of the district. 

Russell is the son of late Abu Naser, a contractor from Purba Kanyara area of the upazila, said RAB 7 Senior Assistant Director (Media) ARM Mozaffar Hossain.

He said Russell was arrested from Baluchara Kulagaon area under Bayezid Bostami Police Station on Wednesday evening.

A RAB team conducted a raid in the area this morning and arrested him. He was later handed over to Anwara police.

RAB said Manik had a conflict with Russell and one Selim over financial matters.
 
On March 17, Russell took Manik to the Parki beach with promise of paying him money.  Later, an argument ensued between Russell and his associate Manik over the payment of the money.

 At one stage, Russell and his other accomplices hacked and beat Manik and escaped. Later, locals rescued him and took him to the Upazila Health Complex. 

From there, he was sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment. He died the next day while undergoing treatment there. 

Later, the victim’s elder brother Mohammad Babu Prakash Babul, filed a murder case against them.
