CHATTOGRAM, Aug 9, 2025 (BSS) - The bodies of two fishermen, who were among eight missing after a fishing trawler capsized near the outer anchorage of Chattogram Port in the Bay of Bengal, have been recovered.

The deceased were identified as Abul Kalam and Idris Mia. Their bodies were found floating near Patenga's 18 Ghat area around 5:30pm on Saturday.

Sadarghat Naval Police Officer-in-Charge Md. Arif confirmed the recovery, saying, "We received reports of the bodies floating between Patenga's 15 Ghat and the Peninsula area. A team, including SI Suman Deb Nath, was dispatched to the scene."

According to Mohammad Miraj, the owner of the ill-fated trawler 'Anika', the vessel had departed from Chattogram city's Fisherighat area with 19 fishermen on Thursday morning. Around noon, while heading towards the deep sea through the Patenga channel, the trawler was struck from behind by another fishing boat and subsequently capsized.

Eleven fishermen managed to survive by boarding a passing local boat and returning to shore, while eight remained missing. With Saturday's recovery, two of the eight have now been found.

All of the missing fishermen are reported to be residents of Noakhali district.
