9 suffer burn injuries in Narayanganj fire

NARAYANGANJ, Aug 23, 2025 (BSS) - Nine members of two families, including women and children, suffered burn injuries in a fire that broke out at a residential building in Siddhirganj under Sadar upazila.

The victims were rescued and admitted to the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka.

The blaze erupted around 3:30 am at a flat in the Hirajheel Roni City residential area on Friday.

The injured were identified as day labourer Hasan, 35, his wife Salma Begum, 32, and their three children Imam Uddin, one month, Jannat, 4, and Muntaha, 11; and day labourer Tanzil Islam, 40, his wife Asma Begum, 35, along with their two children Tisha, 17, and Arafat, 15.

Md Monir Hossain, in-charge of Dhaka Medical College Hospital police camp, said nine people with burn injuries were taken to the burn institute. "Eight are undergoing treatment while one was released after primary care," he added.

Senior station officer of Adamjee Fire Service, Md Miran Mia, said after receiving the information, firefighters rushed to the spot and doused the flames. 

"The victims were taken to the hospital earlier. It is initially suspected that the fire originated from an electrical short circuit in a refrigerator, which triggered a compressor explosion," he said.
