RAJSHAHI, Aug 23, 2025 (BSS) - Experts at a seminar today underscored the need for producing more skilled manpower for overseas employment, saying competence is the key to sustaining in the global labour market.
They said exporting skilled workers not only improves the livelihood of migrants but also strengthens the country's economy.
The seminar titled "Human Resource Development and Safe Migration: Saudi Arabia Context" was held at the Shilpakala Academy auditorium, jointly organised by the District Administration and Technical Training Centre (TTC).
A large number of youths, parents, and government and non-government officials attended the seminar.
Additional Director General of the Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training (BMET) Ashraf Hossain addressed the programme as chief guest with Deputy Commissioner Afia Akhter in the chair.
Superintendent of Police Farzana Islam, Rajshahi College Principal Prof Jahur Ali, New Government Degree College Principal Prof Kalachand Shil, District Education Officer Abdul Wahab and TTC Principal Engineer Nazmul Haque also spoke.
Ashraf Hossain said many migrant workers face exploitation, salary discrimination and deception due to lack of skills, while trained workers secure better pay and decent working conditions.
"We don't want to see any more workers go abroad only to lead a miserable life with little earning," he said, adding that the government has been strengthening TTCs across the country to build a skilled workforce.
Highlighting new opportunities, he mentioned that Japan currently requires about one lakh skilled workers. He also said an integrated digital system has been introduced to ensure transparency in migration, with online registration for TTC admission beginning next month.
"This breakthrough will help guarantee safe migration while reducing harassment by middlemen and brokers," he added.
