KHULNA, Aug 23, 2025 (BSS) - A Jubodal leader was hacked to death by unidentified assailants late Friday night in the Dumuria's Aatharo Mile area in Khulna.

The deceased was identified as Shamim Hossain, 33, joint convener of Islamiakati Union Unit Jubo Dal in Tala upazila in Satkhira.

Police later detained two suspects in connection with the killing.

The arrestees are Ijazul Islam, 43, son of Abu Bakkar Dafadar of Monirampur's Kondalpur village, and Shariful Islam Sardar, 38, son of Ahmad Ali Sardar of Balarampur village in Tala upazila in Satkhira.

Law enforcers recovered the body and sent it to Khulna Medical College Hospital morgue for post-mortem.

According to locals, Shamim, son of Gaffar Sheikh, lived in Aatharo Mile of Dumuria since childhood and previously worked as a motorcycle mechanic at the local market.

His mother Rashida Begum claimed that outsiders frequently visited their house at night for drug abuse.

"That night, Ijazul and Shariful came as usual. I don't know why they killed my son," she said in tears.

Shamim's wife, Fatema Akter Brishti, alleged that he was addicted to drugs despite repeated warnings from the family. She said her husband was killed sometime between 10:30 pm and 11:00 pm yesterday.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Dumuria Police Station Mohammad Masud Rana said Shamim was murdered while allegedly under the influence of drugs. "Two suspects are in custody for interrogation," he confirmed.
