RAJSHAHI, Aug 23, 2025 (BSS) - Environmentalists and experts today stressed the urgent need for proper wildlife conservation to maintain ecological balance and protect biodiversity.

They also highlighted the importance of raising public awareness about the critical role of wildlife in the environment.

The remarks came at a training workshop titled "Snake Bite Awareness, Snake Rescue and Release", jointly organized by the Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Forum (NBCF) and the Bangladesh Biodiversity Conservation Federation (BBCF) at Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET).

RUET Vice-Chancellor Prof SM Abdur Razzaque, the chief guest, emphasized that the country's wildlife population is gradually declining due to factors such as habitat loss and urged timely and effective conservation measures.

He called for strengthened security for wildlife and noted the vital role of wildlife sanctuaries in protecting natural ecosystems.

Prof Abdur Razzaque also urged all government, non-government, and research organizations to work collaboratively to safeguard wildlife and prevent further environmental degradation.

Prof Rabiul Islam Sarker, RUET Students Welfare Director, presided over the workshop, which featured speeches by prominent experts, including zoologists Prof Bidhan Chandra Das and Prof Farid Ahsan, veterinary and animal scientist Prof Jalal Uddin Sarker, BBCF President Ziaur Rahman, and NBCF General Secretary Engineer Zunayed Ahmed.

The speakers discussed effective and timely use of anti-venom, snake-bite prevention and the importance of public awareness.
