RANGAMATI, Aug 23, 2025 (BSS) -The 16 sluice gates of the Kaptai Hydropower Plant were closed at 5 PM today in the district as the water level of Kaptai Lake returned to normal.

Kaptai Hydropower Plant Managing Engineer Mahmud Hasan confirmed the matter.

The gates had been opened on Wednesday night after heavy rainfall raised the lake's level above the danger mark, prompting the release of 9,000 cusecs of water per second into the Karnaphuli River.

With reduced rainfall in recent days, the lake's water level dropped to 108.15 feet above mean sea level, allowing for the gates' closure - the second time in three days.
