KHULNA, Aug 26, 2025 (BSS) - Fatema Akter Brishti, wife of slain Jubo Dal leader SM Shamim, has confessed in court to orchestrating her husband's murder over long-standing family disputes and domestic violence.

Superintendent of Police in Khulna TM Mosharraf Hossain disclosed the matter at a press briefing today.

In her confessional statement under section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), Brishti admitted she had been unhappy since marriage and was often assaulted by Shamim. She planned the murder with her cousin Obaidullah.

According to police, three days before the incident she brought Obaidullah to her home. On the night of the killing, after dinner, she led Shamim to a flat on the third floor of their Dumuria residence. On her signal, Obaidullah hacked Shamim to death with a sharp weapon. The duo later dumped the weapon in a nearby waterbody before returning downstairs to Shamim's mother.

Police said the case was initially without leads, as Shamim's mother, Rashida Khatun, had filed a case against unidentified persons. A special investigation team later arrested Brishti and Obaidullah on Monday from Shamim's house.

While Brishti confessed in court, Obaidullah, being underage, was sent to Jashore Juvenile Correction Centre.

The murder took place late Friday night, when Shamim was found slaughtered in his own home. Investigators initially considered political rivalries, drug links, financial disputes, and family unrest as possible motives, the SP added.
