Anwarul, Hilali elected as president, general secretary of Netrakona BNP

NETRAKONA, Aug 31, 2025 (BSS) - Prof Dr Anwarul Haque and Dr Rafiqul Islam Hilali have been elected president and general secretary of Netrakona District Unit of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) respectively.

The district BNP triennial conference was held at Moktarpara ground of the district town yesterday after 11 years, in a festive and peaceful atmosphere. The election results were announced last night after the conference.

A total of 1,515 councilors from 10 upazilas and 5 municipalities elected this new leadership through direct voting. A total of five candidates contested for the president and general secretary posts.

Prof Dr Anwarul Haque was elected president with 1275 votes, while his opponent Advocate Mahafujul Haque received 211 votes.

Dr Rafiqul Islam Hilali was elected general secretary with 746 votes, while his nearest rival Abdullah Al Mamun Khan Rony got 721 votes.
