Drug dealer jailed for life in Khulna

KHULNA, Aug 31, 2025 (BSS) - A Khulna court today sentenced a drug dealer to life imprisonment in a narcotics case. 

The convicted person was identified as Barek Akon, son of Ansar Akon alias Ahmed Akon, a tenant at Amjad's house near the Navy Check Post under Khalishpur Police Station in the city.

He was also fined Taka 5,000; in default, he will serve one month of rigorous imprisonment.

Judge Sumi Ahmed of Khulna Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court-1 pronounced the verdict in the presence of the convict, confirmed Bench Assistant Shuvendu Roy Chowdhury.

According to court sources, on June 17, 2015, police carried out an operation near a grocery shop on Titumir Road under Khalishpur Police Station upon being informed that drug peddlers were selling drugs there. 

While some fled, police arrested Barek Akon and recovered 30 bottles of Phensedyl from his possession. 

Later that night, Sub-Inspector (SI) Md. Altaf of Khalishpur Police Station filed a case under the Narcotics Control Act. On July 31, 2015, SI Sheikh Kader Ahmed, the investigating officer, submitted the charge sheet against Barek Akon.
