Four held in Narail for child abduction

NARAIL, Aug 31, 2025 (BSS) - Police in a drive arrested four people, including a woman, in connection with the kidnapping of an eight-year old child this morning from a picnic spot at Lohagara upazila of the district.

During the drive, the abducted child Abdullah Mejbah, son of Salauddin Mridha, a Saudi expatriate, was also rescued.

The arrested are shopkeeper Ujjwal Sheikh, 36, son of Shahid Sheikh, Rozina Begum, 35, wife of Babul Laskar, her son Shakib Laskar, 17, and van driver Jannatul, 18, son of Hanif Sheikh, residents of Kotakol union of the upazila.

They also demanded ransom from the family of the child. 

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Lohagara Police Station Shariful Islam said this at a press briefing at the police station hall room on Sunday afternoon.

The OC said that Abdullah Mejbah went to Ujjal Sheikh's shop next to his house around 8:30 pm on Saturday. At that time, Ujjal Sheikh made him unconscious by giving sleeping pills. Then, the kidnappers took the child and hid him in a room at a picnic spot in the town's Rampur area that night. 

A case was filed in this connection. The accused have been sent to jail through the court.
