Three workers die while cleaning water tank in Munshiganj

MUNSHIGANJ, Aug 31, 2025 (BSS) - Three construction workers died while working inside a reserve water tank of an under-construction building in the Khaleast area of Munshiganj city this afternoon.

The deceased were identified as Md Ibrahim, a resident of Terihata village in Gabtoli upazila of Bogura district, Firoz Mia, 18, son of Zahurul of Dhangara village in Gaibandha and Shaheen Islam, 18, son of Md Mokle Islam of Debiganj upazila in Panchagarh district.

The incident occurred around 3:30 pm when Ibrahim and Firoz descended into the water tank of a two-storey building owned by one Sabuj Kazi, reportedly to dismantle a central wooden structure, locals and police sources said.

Shaheen later entered the tank after noticing they had not returned, they added.

When none of the three men came out, locals alerted the Munshiganj Fire Service, who rushed to the scene and recovered the three workers in an unconscious state and later, they were declared dead.

Md Mehpuz Tanzir, Station Officer of Munshiganj Fire Service, confirmed that the bodies were recovered from inside the tank.

Officer-in-Charge of Munshiganj Sadar Police Station M Saifur Islam said the bodies have been sent to Munshiganj General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
