DINAJPUR, Sept 2, 2025 (BSS) - Stone extraction has resumed at the Maddhapara Hard Rock Mine in the district.

The operations restarted at midnight on Tuesday after a four-day suspension due to a shortage of explosives.

Maddhapara Hard Rock Mine General Manager Engineer Md. Obaidullah today confirmed the matter of resume, saying that from 12:00 am Tuesday stone extraction activities recommenced under the supervision of Maddhapara Granite Mining Company.

He explained that ammonium nitrate and several other explosives are required for the extraction process. Due to the shortage of one such explosive, operations had been halted since August 28.

On Monday afternoon, the necessary explosive arrived at the mine and underground activities resumed immediately and full-scale extraction began at midnight, which will continue uninterrupted from now on.

Sources said that the Belarusian contracting firm Germania Trust Consortium (GTC) is conducting the extraction. As per the agreement, Maddhapara Granite Mining Company is responsible for supplying all machinery and explosives.

Maintaining previous consistency, the mine authorities expect to extract between 5,000 to 5,500 metric tons of stone daily across three shifts.

Earlier, due to explosive shortages, stone production at the Maddhapara Hard Rock Mine was previously suspended in May 2022. Similar disruptions occurred in 2014 for 22 days, followed by in 2015 for two months, in June 2018 for seven days and in March 2022 for 14 days.

Sources added that stone extraction at the Maddhapara Hard Rock Mine is currently ongoing. The stones extracted here are highly valuable and durable. The government is prioritizing their use in national development projects such as roads, bridges and heavy construction.
