DHAKA, Sept 7, 2025 (BSS) – Members of the law enforcement agencies have so far arrested seven people after analyzing video footage of the recent attack and vandalism at the shrine of Nurul Haque alias Nurul Pagla and torching his body in Rajbari.
Chief Adviser’s Deputy Press Secretary Mohammad Abul Kalam Azad Majumder revealed it at a press briefing at the Foreign Service Academy in the city.
He said two of the arrestees are involved in local politics of the fascist Awami League, the party whose activities are currently banned in the country.
Majumder said the matter was also reviewed at a high-level meeting held at the State Guest House Jamuna here today to review the law and order situation across the country.
Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus presided over the meeting.
He said investigation is being carried out focusing on four specific aspects of the incident- vandalism of police and administration’s vehicles, destruction of the shrine, exhumation of the body from the grave and torching the corpse.
Among the arrestees, Kazi Arif alias Kazi Apu was directly identified as being involved in exhuming the body, Majumder said.
Besides, two other arrestees- General Secretary of the Goaland Upazila Swechchhasebak League Hiru Mridha and President of the Ujanchar Union Chhatra League Masud Mridha- are involved in the politics of local Awami League, he added.
“The analysis of video footage is ongoing. Anyone found to be involved in or linked to the incident through investigation will be brought to book,” the deputy press secretary said.
At today’s law and order review meeting, he said, Chief Adviser and senior officials of the government were briefed on the progress of the case.
Majumder said that the meeting was informed that prior to the incident, the local ‘Iman-O-Akida Rokkha Committee’ had held multiple meetings with district and upazila administrations and had taken permission to hold a peaceful protest. But, they later turned unruly, violating their commitment.
It is also being investigated whether the committee had any involvement in this incident, he added.
About the movement of Palli Bidyut Samity officials, Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam said that the government is tolerant to peaceful movements.
However, he cautioned that any disruption to electricity supply or consumer services would compel the government to take strict measures.
The press secretary said two committees have already been formed to resolve issues related to Palli Bidyut Samity, and action has begun based on their reports.
The process of reinstating the transferred employees to their previous workplaces is also underway and the suspension orders are being reviewed, he added.
“According to intelligence agencies, anti-state elements are instigating the Palli Bidyut Samity movement. The government is taking stern action against them. Therefore, there is no justification for officials to go on a work abstention programme,” Shafiqul Alam added.
