RANGPUR, Sept 7, 2025 (BSS) - Deeply saddened by the death of prominent
writer, researcher, historian and intellectual Badruddin Umar, local leaders
of Ganosamhati Andolon (GA) have said that he fought for the people's
liberation throughout his life.
Rangpur district convener of Ganosamhati Andolon Touhidur Rahman and member-
secretary Mufakhkharul Islam Moon expressed deep sorrow over the death of
Badruddin Umar and deep condolences to his bereaved family, said a press
release.
Paying humble tribute to his life and work, they said in the release that the
death of Badruddin Umar (December 20, 1931-September 7, 2025) is an
irreparable loss for the freedom-loving people of Bangladesh, the burden of
which the people will have to bear.
Badruddin Umar, one of the anti-fascist theorists in the history of
Bangladesh and the architect of the path of mass uprising and the President
of the National Liberation Council, first identified the politics of Awami
League as fascist.
The Ganosamhati Andolon leaders said that Badruddin Umar was a unique and
ordinary character in the movement to establish the rights of the people of
Bangladesh.
He has repeatedly analyzed the course of history and guided the path of the
people's struggle.
Throughout his life, he has remained steadfast in progressive, democratic,
and people-oriented political activities. Compromise was not in his
dictionary.
They said that Badruddin Umar, along with Sector Commander Colonel Kazi
Nuruzzaman, took an active role in forming the Anti-Fascist Democratic
Committee before 2000, by theorizing the political ideology of the Awami
League as fascism.
Badruddin Umar has made a very important contribution in identifying the
politics of the Awami League as fascist.
They said when the so-called progressive intellectuals wanted to keep
themselves safe in the shadow of fascism, he spoke the truth fearlessly.
He never subordinated the class struggle to the struggle against
fundamentalism and indulged in the politics of division.
