International Literacy Day observed in Magura

MAGURA, Sept 8, 2025 (BSS) - International Literacy Day has been observed here in the district with due dignity and enthusiasm, under the theme "Literacy for the Expansion in the Era of Technology."

The district administration organized a series of colorful events, including a rally and a discussion, to mark the occasion today.

The day's programs began at 10 am with a vibrant rally that started from the Deputy Commissioner's office premises. The rally, featuring colorful banners and festoons, paraded through the Vaina intersection and returned to the starting point. Teachers, students, guardians, and people from all walks of life took part in the rally.

Following the rally, a discussion was held in the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner's office. Deputy Commissioner Md. Ohidul Islam attended as the chief guest, while Additional Deputy Commissioner Shashwati Shil, District Secondary Education Officer Alomgir Hossain, along with heads and teachers of various educational institutions, were present as special guests.

Speakers at the event highlighted that in the modern era of technology, the meaning and importance of literacy have expanded significantly. Beyond just reading and writing, literacy now includes digital skills and the ability to use technology effectively. They emphasized the urgent need to equip the younger generation with relevant education and practical skills.

In his speech, DC Md. Ohidul Islam said, "Technology-based education is crucial for building a Digital Bangladesh. It is not enough to ensure basic literacy-we must also empower people with the skills needed to navigate the digital world. The government is working relentlessly to achieve this goal."

Teachers at the program stressed the role of parents and society in improving literacy rates. Students also shared their excitement about the celebration, expressing their determination to use technology in positive and productive ways.

The event saw the participation of hundreds of students, teachers, guardians, and officials from the district administration, creating a festive and inspiring atmosphere.
