KCC inaugurates secondary transfer station for sustainable waste management

KHULNA, Sept 9, 2025 (BSS) - Khulna City Corporation (KCC) inaugurated a Secondary Transfer Station (STS) under its Sustainable Capacity Building to Reduce Irreversible Pollution (SCIP) Plastic Project, aiming to promote environment-friendly waste management.

KCC Administrator Md. Firoz Sarkar inaugurated the newly constructed STS at Rayermohol Aziz intersection by unveiling a commemorative plaque and offering prayers yesterday.

The facility, built at a cost of around Tk 8 lakh, was jointly funded by Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) and Germany's Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection.

Project officials said the station will facilitate the scientific disposal of household and other local waste, contributing to cleaner and more sustainable urban management.

KCC Acting Chief Executive Officer Sharif Asif Rahman, KUET Professor Dr. Khondoker Mahbub Hasan, Executive Magistrate and Chief Waste Management Officer Kohinur Jahan, along with local political leaders and community representatives, attended the inaugural ceremony.
