Two killed in separate road accidents in Patiya

CHATTOGRAM, Sept 13, 2024 (BSS) - Two people lost their lives in separate road accidents this afternoon in Jalua Dighirpar and Goirla areas under Patiya upazila here.

Sub-Inspector Wasim of Patiya Police Station said the first incident occurred around 1:30 pm in the Jalua Dighirpar area when a chair coach of Purabi Paribahan collided head-on with a pickup van carrying tiles. The pickup driver, Abdul Quader, 42, died on the spot. He was a resident of Noakhali and the son of Mohammad Kibria. Police later seized the bus involved in the crash.

Earlier, around 1:00pm in the Tek area of Goirla, 60-year-old farmer Sher Mohammad was killed after being struck by a lagoon while crossing the Chattogram-Cox's Bazar highway on his way to the field. He was the son of the late Abdul Hamid and a resident of the locality. Eyewitnesses said he died instantly after the impact.

Officer-in-Charge Jasim Uddin of the Patiya Crossing Highway Police Station confirmed that police responded quickly to both incidents, recovered the bodies, and brought them to the station. 

He added that the vehicle involved in the Jalua Dighirpar accident has been seized as part of the investigation.
